- Please take your Essential Assessment today. Today is the last day I will accept this assignment. As for all other work:
- If your grade is above 65%, stop submitting work. The grade book is closed. If your grade is below 65%, please keep working towards credit. If you submit work today and any day after today and you already have credit, you will notice no change in school loop. Thank you for being so diligent in your efforts. It has been one heck of a trimester. Way to put the word “try” into the word trimester!! I will never forget this year - ever! And I hope to see you in the future. I miss you all so much.

- Hello! This is our very last assignment for the year. This link goes to a google Slide deck that contains our Essential Assessment. Within the slide deck, you will see a "click here" tab that will take you to your google answer form. There are 22 questions - each question is worth 1 point. This quiz represents what is essential for 8th grade science - so it covers material that you should have learned since day 1 in 8th grade science. Your score will be sent to me. You must finish the quiz by 11:59 Wednesday May 28, 2020
- Good luck!

- Good morning!
- This I think is our last drawing/instructional video for the year... possibly... maybe...
- So, last week you were "Toal'd" (lol) to print out and fill in the phases of the Moon. Today we are filling out the bottom part of that paper (the one with the 8 moons... its not really 8 moons, its one moon in 8 different locations as it orbits Earth.
- Here is a just under 10 minute instructional video on Phases of the Moon and Tides. Watch the video and fill out the diagram as you watch. You can always pause and rewind if you need to.
- Thanks KIDS :)

- Good morning 8th grade! I am still spending 100% of my checking emails and updating school loop for the kids that are finally catching up. Little overwhelming on my end right now, but Im so happy to see the work getting turned in. So, because most of my time is getting funneled to catch up work, I wont be assigning anything new this week. If you want to, work on your water rocket and let me know if you are doing this too.
- As for the kids who are catching up, PLEASE UPLOAD YOUR WORK TO GOOGLE CLASSROOM
- thanks kids - I hope you had a nice weekend.

- Hi Kids! If you were at my last zoom, you might remember me telling you about the precancerous lesion that I am treating on my lip. That was a week ago. The topical ointment that I am using is working, but it has blistered my lip and it is difficult to talk right now and it hurts to laugh/smile. Because of this temporary situation, I am not going to zoom today. I have extended all of your work to be due 5/18. I will hopefully be zooming again on Friday. Sorry about this. And don't worry about me, I am going to be fine. I just wanted to tell you why I won't be able to zoom today - I miss you all so much...
may 5, 2020
- Happy Cinqo de Mayo.
- here is my update for the next two weeks:
- I think we are going to take a well deserved Break. I am going to tone it down. I would like you to start observing the moon. Just go outside at night and take a good look at it. Full Moon is coming. These moon notes will be due in 2 weeks. I will not be assigning anything new next week, we are working hard and its getting difficult, stressful and just too much for some of us. So, take a science break. If you did the moon notes, you are done. If you cant complete these notes, due to tech issues, let it go - just let it go. OK? take a breather. I will still zoom on Wednesday
May 4, 2020
- Good morning Kids! This is possibly our 50th day of SIP... but I'm losing track - but MAY THE 4TH BE WITH YOU :) In one month, school will be officially closed for summer. We will not start back up until Aug 25 - when you are in high school! holy wow!
- Anyway, I want you to look up at the moon today - it will becoming full soon. The name of the phase the moon is in right now is called "waning gibbous".
- I would like you to print out the MOON NOTES and fill in the notes from my instructional video ( I explain things as I go through the MOON NOTES powerpoint).
- After you complete the notes, take a pic of completed notes and upload to google classroom. The moon notes will go on page 108-109.
- Good luck with the notes.

- Good morning! Welcome to distance learning week #2. I have put some things together for the week and I hope you can handle it!! Of course you can!! I miss you guys so much. This week I am trying to distance teach about how the Earth revolves around the sun, and why we have seasons (we have seasons because of the way Earth's axis is tilted in space). I am still trying to make one more instructional video for tomorrow - wish me luck! lol
- Ok, so first I would like you to open up and read through (entirely) the distance learning april 27 2020 pdf. This contains all of the instruction written out. You do not need to print it out. It wont go on a page in your lab book, but if you find it easier to print it out - please do whatever works best for you to learn this week :) Underneath this pdf, I have included my weekly instructional video on how to do everything. The files below my instructional video link are what else you need for this week. All of this work is due in one week (Monday). I will assign this work on School Loop and in Google Classroom on Wednesday (you can not turn in the this weeks work until Wednesday, ok?) I need today and tomorrow to update last weeks grades. I hope you understand. If you do not understand, I will be right next to my gmail this afternoon.

Good Morning!
here are the assignments for this week in Science. I made a video explaining your Space Address since we are starting astronomy today. See the Show me video link below.
The Space Address does not need to be in your lab book, but the Special Star worksheet does. Please print out the"Special Star" worksheet (the space address is page 2 of this download, if you want to print it out you can but you don't need to.
You can either print out the entire following assignment and put each part/page/assignment into your lab book on the correct page numbers, or if you don't have a printer, just write it directly onto your lab book. I have included a picture of the table of contents that includes this weeks assignment with their correct page numbers. Use your blue textbook that you have at home for the vocab words. The blue textbook will be used for Astronomy.

I will be having another zoom class today. The final one for 8th grade science before our Spring break - Our Spring Break starts at 2:30 this Friday. Yippee! No school work during this time.
I will be explaining how to do the EM Poster during the zoom - hopefully I will see you tomorrow
If you miss the zoom, I will make a recording of how to make it - but I hope it won't be too confusing.
This will be our final assignment for light. It hasn't been the easiest unit to teach or learn.
At this point we will start Astronomy on the first day after Spring Break.
Ive been teaching astronomy for 20 years - I know I can teach this one online. But you will need to get some colored pencils for this unit, and oh dear, a circle maker - like a compass :D You'll need these supplies by the end of April. No hurry.
VIDEO for explaining the EM poster is HERE! :) Sorry for the delay

March 25, 2020 watch 3 these videos :)
here are some videos to watch - One is called the Tacoma Narrows which is a bridge that collapsed due to a phenomena when the wind speed matched the frequency of the bridge towers swaying. This is related to your wave notes. the wind was blowing at a very constant speed and as the wind kept blowing, the bridge started to sway. Because the wind was blowing so perfectly at the same velocity, the frequency of the bridge swaying intensified. And the frequency of the bridge intensified, the bridge becomes unstable. engineers learned a lot from this mistake. GG bridge is the same type of bridge and you'll notice that concrete and steel are very flexible ..to a point. and Washington state did end up building a new bridge right next to where the old bridge was. if you drive tacoma narrows bridge today, you can see the old towers still standing. pretty cool

Mar 18, 2020
- good morning! kinda miss you guys :)
- today I would like you to print out Light notes for your lab book and tape or glue in lab book on page 95. Just fill out the notes using the LIGHT notes (PDF). They are not long notes. I will also assign some book work tomorrow - based on the pages I uploaded yesterday
- Click on "downloadables" tab to access the notes
- Also, I updated the Table of Contents for lab book to help you stay up to date
Mar 17, 2020
- good morning! if possible, I would like you to finish the notes on "Waves" I have also uploaded pics from the green science textbook - which you don't have - to help you understand waves. We will be transitioning into light also, because waves and light - they're interconnected.
- So, just finish Vocab words #11(frequency) - #13 (photon)
- Under this, there are some pages to read. These pages are also under "downloadables". Please read it for now and then I would like you to go outside and take some photos. Where can you observe waves? are they visible to our eye or not (inferred or microwave)? Sound waves would be challenging. Heat waves... hmmm... not hot enough but you never know.. Water waves will be easy to photograph ... Light waves - well, maybe play with your photo filters to experiment with different waves of light (every filter is basically a change in the light used for the photo). Maybe take a very cool photo, and change the filter a few times. Just start getting outside, take photos of the same object with different filters. Take notice of shadows too...
- You can spend 20 minutes or three days on this. We will do something with these photos later - just go outside and let the photons from the sun keep you happy!
Mar 16, 2020
- this is our first day not in school. I have uploaded the waves notes and worksheet here for the ones who missed last week. Please print (if you can) the waves notes and put both pages on 93 -94. to fill out the notes, click on the link below to view pdf of waves vocab.
- Table of Contents for your lab book will be updated weekly under the lab book tab on this website.
- So if you already have the notes from last week you are good for the day. cool beans kids :)
