may 19/20, 2015
- Open House THURS May 21 (May 22 is minimum day - right before our 3 day weekend)
- get ready for open house in class on Wed/Thursday - which means fixing up your balloon car if i still have it (glue wheels back on, put on new balloons) and also you will assemble the dioramas in class for open house too. Along with balloon cars and planet dioramas, we will also have our rockets to show. Index card to show your team name and "best in show" (which rocket was best and why). We will have a very exciting (THE BEST!) room on open house and I really encourage you to bring your family - we have so much to show off - it'll look great!
- work on google slides - we'll figure out - maybe we will start presentations.
- HOMEWORK:
may 15/18, 2015
- Rally schedule on Friday
- Launch 2 :) rain or shine - don't forget to include a video of your rocket launching - this video is the last slide of your presentation
- I POSTED YOUR DATA ONLINE - PLEASE - IF YOUR ROCKET DIDNT GET DATA COME TO ME ON MONDAY MORNING WITH YOUR ROCKET READY TO GO - AND I WILL LAUNCH IT FOR YOU DURING MY BDAY LAUNCHES - BEN/ZARBIA/EVAN
- FOR YOUR FINAL CONCLUSION -
tell me your ind var in a complete sentence and tell me your thinking process why you think your change would make your rocket improve - complete thoughtful sentence - it should be the bomb! :)
B) why (As stated above)
C) Which DV had a positive change?
The possilble DV that could have a possible change could be one or more (or all) of the following: did your distance increase, did your air time (time) increase, or did your speed (dist/time) increase compared to the same rocket number from the FIRST launch. get it? let me know if you you have questions. try this at home and i will give you guys a little more time to clarify and edit your final conclusion.
Why do you think this change occurred?
to your best ability - why do you think the change you made - made your rocket improve in distance - time - or speed
yet another complete sentence - and it should be the bomb!!
- HOMEWORK: BINDER CHECK MAY 19/20
may 13/14, 2015
- Here's what your slides should have - in order - in case you cant read the green sheet
- You need to work update your independent variables for your rockets and maybe polish up your control if its a little dinged up.
- Take a picture of your modified rockets and this picture will be added as a NEW SLIDE that we will talk about in class (it will go after conclusion A and before final conclusion). This slide will just have a picture of each of your modified rockets and a quick explanation of what you changed on each rocket. We're including this slide to make sure that you really are modifying your independent variable to improve the distance from launch 1. We don't want you getting lazy about such an important part of your rocket project. haha.
- You need to take home all of your rocket supplies at the end of class (no, you can not "come back after class for it". options: donate, recycle or take home. :) Make sure you have a cap for your rocket. Keep it in your back pack, they are disappearing :0
- HOMEWORK: launching next class for a second time. You must take a video next time of your launch now that you understand how it works). This video must be appropriate and included into your presentation. You have made amazing rockets and I am having a great time watching you create and learn. We will take a selfie with my selfie stick :) at the end of class when your rockets are ready for launch 2
- HOMEWORK: all missing or late work for the entire year has to be turned in by May 20. I have asked for textbooks and the last day to turn it in is also May 20 or you will be shuffled into the office and they will hold your yearbook until you turn in your book.
may 11/12, 2015
- *****SEE DOWNLOADABLES FOR YOUR ROCKETDATA
- Making sure that you have taken a separate picture of all of your rockets.
- Making sure that you have measured the height and mass of your control rocket
- Making sure that you have written your prediction of how your #2 and #3 (and #4) rockets will fly compared to your control - written in your google slides before we go out and launch and must be shared with Ms Toal before we leave for our fun launch :)
- Fill your bottles with one liter of water (all sinks contain one empty ! liter bottle - fill the empty bottle with water and pour into your rocket. Put your cap on your rocket.
- Keep your cap after you launch today and put the cap back on before leaving the classroom
- HOMEWORK: next class we will be spending one day on manipulating our already chosen independent varialble to make it better. Chromebook research would be a good idea. For example, if your independent variable (I.V.) is the nose cone, then you must create a completely different nose cone and launch this rocket again with a newly designed nose cone for launch #2. If your I.V. is the fin design, then you must bring materials to manipulate and create a whole new fin design for launch #2. As for your control, nothing will needed to be done unless it got obliterated on the first launch, so you'll have to make it as it was before the 1st launch. Make sense? we are launching again on Friday May 15 ( A day) and Monday May 18 (B day) and after that we will finish our google slides in class.
- You must include a video of your rocket during the second launch - for one rocket - to be inserted into your google slides :)
may 7/8, 2015
- Finish building all of your rockets. Make sure each rocket is labeled with your team name, rocket #1, #2, #3 and teacher name, and class period. Also label the independent variable - all written in with a sharpie. Ex:
rocket # ________
teacher / period
I.V. = __________
- You need to start your Google Slides and take a group picture with all of you and your rockets.
- You also need to take an individual picture of each rocket for the individual slide that you will create for each rocket.
- You need to find the mass of your control rocket and the height of your control rocket.
- Also, for slide # 3 and # 4 (#5 too if you are in a group of 4) you need to create a slide that has a picture of the rocket, stating A) what the independent variable is and B) predict how your dependent variable will be affected compared to your control, meaning predict if the change you have made will affect the distance, the air time, or the speed. EX: Our independent variable for our rocket #2 is the mass in the nose cone. We think that by changing it to beans, the rockets air time will increase compared to the air time of our control. OR: Because we changed the shape of our fins, we think that the speed of our rocket will increase compared to our control rocket.
- HOMEWORK: bring textbook if you haven't done so yet.
MAY 5/6, 2015
- IM SO EXCITED! IT'S ROCKET BUILDING TIME !!
- Turn in Mini Book (if you haven't turned in your diorama, it is due today also) We will not be assembling the books yet, we need to save counter space for all of our rockets :) we will assemble our dioramas a little closer to open house. Please come to open house - we will have rockets, balloon cars and dioramas. :)
- I will be checking each group for supplies and checking the independent variable for each rocket in each group. i want to make sure that everyone is starting correctly - this will be so much fun and I will be taking pictures for the movie/slide show that I will
- HOMEWORK: Bring any more supplies that are needed to finish your rockets - all rockets must be completed at the end of next class (5/7 A-day or 5/8 B-day) You must bring your Chromebooks charged on Thur/Fri so we can start working on the Google slides.
